Helen G. Wilson Community Room is now Open for Reservations
The Helen G. Wilson Community Room is now open for reservations!

This decision is based on updated guidance issued by the CDC that includes metrics for determining COVID-19 community levels – hospital bed use, hospital admissions, and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area. According to these new metrics, Fairfax County’s current community level is low.

Guidelines for room reservation and use:
  • All events held must be open to the public and free of charge.
  • The community room is reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. The space is equipped with tables, chairs, and a white board.
  • Chairs and tables are provided for your convenience. If you remove them from the room, please return them following your event.
  • Please be mindful of other meetings taking place in this building and keep your group’s noise to a respectful level.
  • There is no cleaning service provided for the community room. As there are often multiple events taking place on the same day in the community room, please ensure your group cleans up after your event and leaves the room in the condition it was in at your arrival.
  • All trash must be removed from the room and left neatly in a closed bag outside the door so that the station janitor can pick it up. Please replace the trash bags you remove with new bags from the rolls provided in each trash receptible for the next group using the room.
  • Before leaving, please ensure that lights are turned off and all signage has been removed.

If you have any additional questions, reach out to our office at 703-971-6262.
Thank you for your help in keeping this space clean and best of luck for a great event!
In the Community
Last Thursday, I joined Bishop Boateng as he presented our Fairfax County Police Department officers with the Faithful Servants Award. This ceremony recognizes first responders for their outstanding community service.

Congratulations to the award recipients!
Last week, I was honored by Paul Friedman of Safer Country for my work in initiating the County-wide Red Flag public awareness campaign that educated the residents of Fairfax County about the details of Virginia's ESRO law.

The Emergency Substantial Risk Order (ESRO) law, commonly referred to as a "Red Flag Law," enables the Fairfax County Police Department to investigate and seek a court order to temporarily remove a gun or guns from individuals who have been determined to be an imminent danger to themselves or others.

The Red Flag Law creates safer circumstances for the individual to seek treatment, stabilize their behavior, or access resources to address the underlying causes of their dangerous behaviors.

You can watch the full campaign kick-off here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IW_8RvcEFk

For more information on the ESRO, visit: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/topics/red-flag

Thank you to Jennifer Carroll Foy, Willie Bailey For Alexandria School Board, and Brad Halsey of Building Momentum for speaking at the event and for your advocacy on this issue.
